VCI vs. Metal Coating

2023.02.28

Metal coating and VCI are two distinct processes for protecting metal surfaces from corrosion. Metal coating involves applying a coating such as paint to the metal's surface, creating a barrier between that and the environment. While this can be effective, it requires a spotless, dry surface and can be laborious and expensive to implement.

Alternatively, VCI (volatile corrosion inhibitor) defends metal surfaces with the use of vapor-phase corrosion inhibitors. VCI products release a protective vapor that clings to the metal's surface, forming a protective layer to prevent corrosion. This non-invasive method of metal protection does not need any surface preparation or removal, and can be integrated into existing production or storage programs easily. Additionally, VCI is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution for metal protection, and can be used to protect a wide range of metal products.
